There are wire stakes on both ends which allow you to anchor it to the ground. This screen can be used with canister, alcohol, or wood stoves. Since it’s a remote unit and I don’t have to worry about overheating the canister, the I got a 12” tall windscreen by Solo. I picked a few up at REI while I was waiting for the Kovea to arrive.Īlong with the stove, I ordered a windscreen. The butane/isobutane/propane canisters are widely available at sporting goods stores, Walmart, etc. For these reasons I chose a remote connect design. The remote connect stoves give you a lower center of gravity, allow you to place a windscreen tighter around the stove and pot when in use, and some can be used with the canister inverted, which may be necessary in cold weather. The direct connect stoves are a bit lighter and more compact. The other method, employed by the Kovea Spider, is a remote connection using a tube. An example of this is the MSR Pocket Rocket. The most common is screwing directly to the top of the can. This is useful in very cold temperatures when you need to run the canister upside to get liquid fuel out.īutane canister stoves are attached to the fuel canister in one of two ways. By running it close to the burner, it can be used to gasify liquid fuel before it gets to the burner itself. The copper tube next to the burner is part of the fuel line. Both reviews have some good detail pictures, along with performance data.Ī closeup of the stove. I chose the Kovea after reading a couple reviews, here and here. Here’s the stove, piezo electric igniter, instruction flier, and carry sack. I had some credit in my Amazon account, so I decided to add a Kovea Spider backpacking stove to my toolkit. A nice overview of the different types of fuels used in these canisters is available at Zen Stoves. One such type of stove is the canister stove, fueled by disposable canisters filled with liquified gas fuel. However, if you need a stove that will boil water more quickly then there are better alternatives. Alcohol stoves are great in that they are cheap to make, easy to use, employ a relatively safe fuel, and work pretty well. Hopefully somewhere will read this and check out the vendor regarding the sale of items not intended for the U.S.I recently posted about an easy to make alcohol stove. I think Amazon should vet their sellers a little better. the fact that the warranty would not be supported due to being a Korean distribution only item is a drag. So overall, the stove itself is built well. You are supposed to contact the seller or Amazon if you receive one like that. My understanding, from things I've read on Amazon, is that these are not intended for the US market. One last thing - the instructions were all in Korean. I think what I will do is roughen the stand grooves and roughen the pot bottom. my aluminum pot slid easily on the stand when the stand was not perfectly level. But it is chrome plated or SS either way it is slick. Each leg has groves cut in to act to 'grab' the pot. The other thing is the pot stand surface is slick. The really cheep stoves with the igniter built in seem to work every time. but if it is going to be included, it should work reliably. I believe this is a part made by a third party. Two minor issues: the igniter does not ignite with the first or second push it took me several attempts to get the flame started. will boil 1/2 liter in about 3 minutes, not even at full boil. the flame adjustment is excellent from a low simmer to high boil.
